Blomberg
This morning Blomberg had a farmer's market in the middle of town. Despite a bit of rain, we walked around the vegetable booths and trucks of meat and cheese. We bought a cucumber, some strawberries, some nectarines, pickles (because Cristina wanted the jar), and some bratwurst.
Enjoying the fruits of our labor back at the house
Alex said he was going to sulk under the stairs, but when it was time to take a photo of it, Bella beat him to it. These stairs lead up to the attic bedroom.
Our big outing for the day (beyond the farmer's market) was to a place called Externsteine, which is a distinctive rock formation not far from Blomberg. When Marion and Harry visited us in Phoenix, they were looking at a book on top mystic places in the world, and it listed Externsteine! So a visit to these mystical rocks was definitely in order. And it was a nice walk too.
The visitor's center had lots of info (in German) and some pamphlets in English.
We stopped at a discount grocery store called Magowsky (a bit like Amazing Savings in Asheville). So cheap! I'm going to miss German prices when we head to Denmark. Sofia stocked up on canned soup for her and Ida to eat during their camping/music festival. Cans of soup were something like 30 cents each. We also got spinach tortellini to go with dinner.
Back at Marion and Harry's we tried the number on the bottom of Harry's router and it worked! We had wi-fi! Unfortunately for my blog, I had left my computer back at the apartment in Blomberg. But Sofia got to check her messages.
Dinner of pasta and grilled brats was great. I couldn't really tell the difference between the farmer's market brats and the ones Marion got at Magowsky. They were both good.
I did a little bit of blogging with Harry's computer while the kids watched Over the Hedge on DVD. Strangely, the y and z are switched on European keyboards. Or at least German ones.
