A slow day in Edinburgh

After all the activity of the past week, we had ourselves a good sleep in and took it easy most of the day.

Laura and the kids took the train to visit her parents. I did a bit of blogging. We finally got out of the house around 3:20. We took the bus (£7.50 for a family day pass) into Edinburgh, walked by Arthur's Seat, Holyrood Palace (where the Queen herself was visiting), Scottish parliament, Royal Mile with the souvenir shops, Scottish poetry library (it was closed), Steve's work place (Architecture + Design Scotland).

We cut through Waverley Station and visited an art gallery. The kids were somewhat baffled by some of the art on exhibition, but we enjoyed it.

At the top of the Royal Mile, we got some chips (french fries) to snack on and listened to some street performers. Steve warned us about the aggressive street performers that tend to harass you if you don't put money in the hat. The guy did get a little testy with people as the crowds dispersed, but Steve said this one wasn't too bad. Some get really mean.

Mmm...chips! From a fish-and-chips shop called Clam Shell

We bused back to Musselburgh. Steve made steak pies for dinner and mashed potatoes, which were delicious if not a bit heavy on the gut.

Steve and I went to his favorite pub to watch the Costa Rica vs. Netherlands World Cup game. There was a delay from the TV we were watching and the TV by the bar, so anytime something exciting happened, we'd wait a few ticks and then hear the exclamation from the other room. It was amusing.
